NOTE: 4:35-41 - For Jesus' disciples, to see Him commanding the wind and sea, and observing their obedience, worked great fear in their hearts! They had forgotten Joshua commanding the sun to stand still upon Gibeon, so he could finish defeating the enemy! It is Godthat causes such things to happen through man. But Jesuswas both Son of man, andSon of God, and though as Son of man He as perfect servant did nothingbut what His Father showed Him to do- yet He is an example for us that He in us in His resurrected state through the Spirit, can still do through man what He did through Joshua. Jesus as 100% man of faith, sets us notan impossible example, but greater works than He did has He promised to do through us! And that He did through Peter and Paul and many to follow like Wigglesworth! Yet - Jesus isunique. Before Abraham was, Jesus could say I am! According to the book of Hebrews, it was Jesus in His pre-incarnate state who spoke the world into a habitable place for Adam in Genesis chapter one.

5:1-20 - Then consider next the maniac of Gadara. Imagine a demoniac named “Legion”, having so many demons that 2000 swine were possessed, and raced over a precipice and drowned in the sea. A man suffered himself to live with over 2000 demons - but 2000 swine would rather drown than live in a demon-infested state. Draw your own conclusions concerning demon-infested people today. See the physical strength that 2000 demons gave to one demoniac. What do we know of such a case? In “Visions Beyond the Veil” by H.A. Baker we learn yet more concerning demons and their heavenly counterpart of fallen angels.

See how Jesus refused permission concerning the request of the former demoniac to come with Him. It was betterfor him as a new convert to witness to his own people what the Lord had done for him. New converts have a zeal for God in witnessing that normally supersedes the witnessing effectiveness of more long-standing Christians. I exemplified this. My brother was scared to walk down town with me as a new Christian in case I would start a street meeting on the way. This was notmy normal nature - but a bright 2 Corinthians 5:17 type of conversion works a tremendous zeal in a new convert for witnessing! I said normalconversion slackens off for witnessing zeal. Exceptions like George Whitefield, Charles Finney and John ?Wesley are indeed thrilling exceptions. But on the whole, we should be like Jesus, and release new converts in their first love to zealously share their new found faith. J.A.W.
